Japanese fashion is a smoldering storm of styles. There’s the lolita look, hipster, and goth rock. Harajuku, the street fashion, and the Hote Couture, have their obvious differences as well as their parallels. Some of Japan’s street fashion, if shown in America, could be considered Couture.
In Japan, the butch look and the cute look are huge. DKNY is very prominent in the country, going along with the chic, casual look. Many of the designers all have their collection of baby-doll dresses. Now, in America as well, the baby-doll dresses are gaining momentum. Pair them with some skinny jeans, and the girlish hipster is complete. What I’m trying to say is that Japanese fashion is a bit weird, but it has its moments. A few years back, the “Bell-sleeve” was huge; obviously modeled after the Kimono; everyone was wearing those types of blouses. The baby-doll dresses have been around Japan for a while now, but just last fall were they coming in America. Who knows what’s next. Even on the runway, Japan’s been integrated as one of the fashion centers of the world, especially Tokyo. In the 90′s Yohji Yamamoto was pretty big and the fashion-acquainted people of the world know him. Its like every big designer has to have a store in America, France, Britain, Italy, and Japan, (Tokyo and Osaka). That’s two hits for Japan. And its a pretty small place, yanno?
I hate to use Gackt, because people hate him and they love him, but he’s a perfet example of the blend. He is obviously not a stranger to Gothic styles, but just recently, at his California performance in SKIN, he was rocking a sort of Hipster/Gothic look. With the way his jeans were in his boots mixed the skinny jean and a goth persona. Anyway, they are so many ways to mix those kind of looks. We’re all familiar with the goth-lolita look. Some of us just prefer lolita, some just goth, but me, I’m a good, old-fashioned Hipster.
I’d like to know, what’s your favorite look? There are just so many: grunge, couture, hipster, and so many more.
**I hope this will suffice? Its # 3 and i’m already doing a horrible job.**
