F.size.free is a two-man Indies band based in Tokyo. Eiji-san and Naoki-san are enthusiastic and passionate about their music. After listening to their music and talking with them, it becomes contagious.
Their self-described pop/Jrock/glam mix makes you smile, dance and most importantly, want to spread the music! Eiji-san’s voice is clear and strong, a little ‘rough’ around the edges, but the more you listen, the more you want to hear.
We were lucky enough to have F.size.free sit down and answer our question via email!
Please introduce yourselves and the part you play in the band.
Eiji: Nice to meet you! I’m Eiji, in charge of vocals, guitar and programming!
Naoki: Nice to meet you! I’m the bassist, Naoki!
How did you come up with your name F.size.free and what exactly does it mean?
Eiji: We wanted the music that free.size makes to have no bounds and be able to change freely. My friends often say that our music style is always changing.
When was the band started and by who?
Eiji: Before forming F.size.free I was a member in several bands but I couldn’t ever do what I wanted musically so I started F.size.free as my own solo project. At first, all of the members were just support members but the last support members; Naoki and Kayo became full members.
Naoki: When I first joined, Kayo, the old drummer, was my neighbor. He came over one day and suddenly asked if I could play bass for the band and I became a member!
Do you compose your own music?
Eiji: Of course! We make and compose all of our music ourselves.
What is your inspiration when writing lyrics?
Eiji: There are a lot of different sets of lyrics that inspire and help me as I write. I also get support from people who I have listened to my songs as I write them and give me advice; it’s great! When I’m writing, I feel like I’m one with the music!
What are your major musical influences?
Eiji: I have plenty of musical influences. David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix are like gods to me!
Naoki: I’m influenced by Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and New Order.
What is your favorite kind of place to do a Live?
Eiji: We like to do Lives pretty much anywhere! As long as there are people who want to hear us play, we’ll play.
How would you describe your musical style?
Eiji: I want to say that we have an ever-changing style, but are very influenced by 70′s glam rock and 80′s new wave. Take that image and mix it with some Japanese/Asian images and melodies and you’ll get our style.
Naoki: In short, POP! Our music represents several styles, listen to it, see it, feel it, and dance to it; that’s our style.
What are your future plans?
Eiji: As expected, we have plans! We’d love to play in several different countries! We’re currently planning a concert in the U.S. for next year. However, since we’re completely Indies and not affiliated with any organization for this concert were working ourselves to death to scrap together the money to fund the concert. If at all possible, we’d like to do several shows while we’re there.
Naoki: Our goal is to not only play in Japan, but also to branch out overseas. We’d like to have more world appeal as well as continue to grow.
Please give a message to your fans!
Eiji: Everyone, thank you very much! We’ll surely come and see you all some day! Just wait a little bit more and we’ll be able to have fun together at a concert! You all move our hearts; we love you!
Naoki: Thank you for reading the interview! I’m looking forward to being able to meet you all! Let’s all go crazy together at a live! Thank you!
