Interview with DEAD END!

Vocalist MORRIE (Creature Creature), guitarist YOU, bassist CRAZY-COOL JOE, and drummer MINATO make the legendary band DEAD END.

DEAD END forever left an impact on former fans as well as new fans following their successful 2009 reunion and numerous lives.  DEAD END is back.

Jpopexpress.com was honored to interview MORRIE, YOU, and CRAZY-COOL JOE.

_______________________________________

Jpopexpress.com: You have recently released the album Metamorphosis. Did everyone discuss their ideas on what they wanted the sound and style to be?

YOU: No, not in particular.

JOE: No, we never talked about it.

MORRIE: We usually do not discuss but instead we act. I trust that YOU will make great songs. We individually do what we want to do based on the songs that YOU creates, even if it destroys the original concept of the song. This is the process for DEAD END.

Jpopexpress.com: Does the meaning of the album’s name represent the rebirth of DEAD END?

MORRIE: No, the title comes from my lyrics of the song entitled 神猿 (Shinen). Like what is happening within the cocoon of a butterfly. Amazement.

Jpopexpress.com: Since the announcement of the reunion you have gained many new fans as well as a lot of press in both Japan and America. Did you expect such a great reaction?

YOU: I did not expect it.

JOE: I never expected that reaction.

MORRIE: It was somewhat surprising that another generation was into DEAD END. We expected the former fans to be interested.

Jpopexpress.com: When DEAD END’s formation first began, how did you come up with the name DEAD END and what is the meaning of it?

MORRIE: One day we were together in a cafe and we decided on the band’s name while reading magazines together. I forgot who came up with it. The name DEAD END to us implied that we will be the last of something. Nothing like us would come after us, really the end, definitive.

Jpopexpress.com: In your early career in the 1980’s you were licensed in America under Metal Blade Records. How did it feel to advance to America in those days?

MORRIE: It just happened. I was not conscious of the US at that time.

Jpopexpress.com: You were known amongst the popular metal bands of that time. Were any of them an inspiration to you and how did it feel be amongst them?

JOE: I was not aware of it.

MORRIE: I did not think of DEAD END as a metal band.

Jpopexpress.com: What was it like to have your PV’s aired on MTV in America amongst the other bands of the heavy metal genre?

JOE: It was very good for us.

MORRIE: I never saw DEAD END on MTV.

Jpopexpress.com: Do you feel there is a big difference between the fashion and music then, and the Visual Kei movement now?

YOU: I suppose there is no big difference between them. You should do whatever you want.

JOE: I just play my own music, I am not interested in movements or subculture.

MORRIE: Yes, there is a big difference of the spirit. In those days only outsiders of society came to play this music. Now Visual K seems to be one of the options of a career.

Jpopexpress.com: How does it feel to know that artists today are still influenced by DEAD END’s music?

YOU: I have no reality that we are given that.

JOE: I feel very honored.

MORRIE: That fact is beyond our expectation and our intention. It is interesting to be part of history.

Jpopexpress.com: Is there a message you would like to send out to your fans of the world when they read this?

YOU: We will meet you somewhere and very soon!

JOE: I would like you to enjoy our music.

MORRIE: I hope you will listen to Metamorphosis.

Thank you to the members of DEAD END and Threshgold Management. Be sure to check out DEAD END on Myspace.com!
